Are you looking for an awesome Japanese anime in English with the subtitles? For native English speakers who really like Japanese anime but are not good at the language, I’d like to introduce 5 anime series which are quite popular among young generation in Japan. Now you just need to login to Netflix.
Minimum plan is only $ 9.99(¥ 990) a month for unlimited streaming
I’m not a shill for Netflix but it’s a smart way that we could enjoy staying at home due to COVID-19. Netflix basically provides other languages with the subtitles and I sometimes recommend this function to Japanese learners who are also interested in Japanese anime, TV series, or film. Anyway, look over 5 anime below with the stories and choose the good one for you.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Speaking of anime which has been a hot topic recently, many Japanese should come to mind Jujutsu Kaisen. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. Just a few hours ago, the official twitter of Jujutsu Kaisen announced that the box office revenue of the latest movie was the highest in Korea, Taiwan, France. Especially in North America, it’s been a blockbuster over 18 million dollars.
Baki The Grappler
Do you like exciting animes kind of martial arts? Baki The Grappler was very popular when I was a student, and the popularity has still gone on. The story follows teenager Baki Hanma as he trains and tests his fighting skills against a variety of different opponents in deadly, no rules hand-to-hand combat. The fights of men who overcome their limits are extremely breathtaking!
Tokyo Ghoul
Dark fantasy in an alternate reality where ghouls, creatures that look like normal people but can only survive by eating human flesh, live amongst the human population in secrecy, hiding their true nature in order to evade pursuit from the authorities. Ghouls have powers including enhanced strength and regenerative abilities.
Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler
Gambling in Hyakkaou Private Academy, a high-class elite school housing the children of Japan’s most wealthy and influential people and with many future leaders and professionals among the student body. However, the student hierarchy in this school is not determined by academic performance or athletic ability, but rather by gambling. Students are ranked by their monetary contributions to the student council.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure
Battle adventure on the Joestar family, whose mainline descendants possess a star-shaped birthmark above their left shoulder blade and a name that can be abbreviated to the titular JoJo. The first part takes place within a single continuity whose generational conflict stems from the rivalry between Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando, while the second part takes place in an alternate universe where the Joestar family tree is heavily altered.
Have you decided what to watch? Anime is essential for Japanese kids to grow up and anybody should have favorite one. My 3 best are Dragon Ball, Fist of the North Star, and Captain Tsubasa, and I sometimes go to a manga cafe to read them in silence. Thanks for reading to the end, and enjoy watching anime at home!
